CODE OF CONDUCT
Give Respect and Get Respect
The wise adage ‘Do unto others as you would like others to do unto you.’ is the golden rule for upholding respect and empathy between individuals.
A respectful environment at workplace not only helps to build a positive culture but also helps in reducing stress and conflicts. It nurtures open communication and effective teamwork.
Respect like trust is earned over time. At a workplace, before earning respect, it needs to be given. Implanting a shared value of respect in all individuals working in an organisation starts with the top management. Leadership should continuously demonstrate what it looks like to respect fellow colleagues.
Respect, sometimes is taken for granted at workplaces and is frequently misunderstood in different circumstances. Some common causes of disrespect at workplace could be, difference in background including culture, past experiences, miscommunication or misunderstanding, personal reasons like anxiety, depression, insecurity, aggressiveness, hypertension etc.
When employees begin to segregate themselves based on seniority, responsibilities or any other criteria, it can quickly result in loss of trust and lead to disrespectful behaviour sometimes.
One can behave respectfully at workplace by adhering to few simple rules:
- Listening to fellow colleagues attentively
- Polite disagreement without demeaning others
- Constructive criticism
- Handling disputes calmly and healthily
- Avoiding behaviours such as taunts, sarcasm etc
- Use of formal greetings and polite words such as thanks and please
Organisations should also focus on making soft skills a priority.
In the light of the above, a workplace code of conduct helps the employees to know behavioural limits at the workplace. The Code also gives employees a sense of reworking on themselves.
Our Company works towards enabling an atmosphere wherein employees treat their colleagues, business partners, and all stakeholders with respect, courtesy, honesty, ethically, and with fairness.
Awareness of the various aspects of our Code of Conduct is spread regularly through various means like emailers, articles, campaigns etc.
